ProMarker colours used: Walnut, Cocoa, Cinnamon & Tan
Stamp used: Penny Johnson – Her Kitty
There are many good techniques for colouring hair with ProMarkers, but I am going to show you the way that I do it! I always use Letraset’s 270g Cartridge Paper when I am colouring, it’s my absolute favourite!
Here is the stamp – Her Kitty by Penny Johnson. As you can see I have already coloured the face. I’m going to be using the ProMarker colours Walnut, Cocoa, Cinnamon and Tan.
I don´t use circular motions with the marker as I normally would when I colour, but instead I use brush strokes. This gives natural structure to the hair.
I always start with the lightest color (in this case Tan) when I do hair. This way I can easily see where I want to put my highlights (lighter areas in the hair).
In the next step I use Cinnamon and repeat the same technique with brush strokes. I don’t colour quite as far down as I did with the previous, lighter colour.
Now I do the same with Cocoa. Again I’m not colouring quite as far down as I did with the previous colour and this leaves a parting in the middle.
Then I blend back over the whole coloured area with TAN remebering to use brush strokes.
I then start the process all over again but starting with the darkest colour (Cocoa). Start adding the long brush strokes, being careful to leave the lighter areas free. Then continue building up the using the lighter colours. I keep doing that, over and over again until I’m satisfied. Don’t give up on this part, it can take a while before you get there…
Here is the finished image.
When I colour hair I use the ProMarker bullet tip, as well as using the ProMarker Ultra-fine nib for areas where I want to add extra texture and definition.
Here is a blonde version done in the same way, but here with the colours Putty, Almond, Primrose and Y417 (Tria).
Here is the stamp coloured using the same techniques but with three different sets of colours. As you can see, varying hair colours can give very different looks and personalities to your character.
Once your image is coloured, you can begin to make the rest of your card. Enjoy!
