Promarker Skintone Combos #1

Today I’m sharing one of my favourite ‘go to’ skintone combinations, this image is a Penny Black stamp, one I’m using for a project I’m working on at the moment and the face is nice and big to show you my basic shading, here is the finished image…

This is my colour combination – Coral, Oatmeal, Dusky Pink, Blush, Sunkissed Pink and a Blender Pen, I’ve used a combination of Promarkers and Flexmarkers but you could use all Promarkers or all Flexmarkers, I just happened to pick these ones up first! I then stamp my image using a Black Memento Ink pad.

I then use a Blender pen where the main highlight will be, in this case down the centre of the face, this stops my later colours going too dark and keeps my highlight in place. Then starting with my darkest colour – Coral, I start at the shadows and work my way in to the centre using subsequently lighter colours, each time going back over the colour I’ve just done so there are no hard edges and my colouring is seamless.

Once it’s finished I’ll leave it to dry for a few minutes usually I’ll colour another area so as not to risk the areas bleeding, then I’ll go back in to add more highlight or shadow or more pink to the cheeks until I’m happy with the result.
